Transporting goods is no problem in a modern industrial society. Shipping agents and trucking companies everywhere are ready and waiting to undertake deliveries of freight of all kinds quickly and cheaply. This is, of course, dependent on the presence of an efficient infrastructure, and a motorway connection close to the customer. But not every customer has this — some do not even have a dirt track leading to their door.

In cases of this kind, it is not uncommon for a group of fully-laden all-terrain trucks to set off from Speyer in the direction of Frankfurt airport, to disappear on arrival into the hold of a chartered heavy-duty freight aircraft and take off, generally for an exotic destination. No matter whether the task is to deliver a few tonnes of powdered milk to Taklamakan, close to the Chinese border, to supply civil-war refugees in Burundi with fresh drinking water, or to collect motorcycles which have been pounded to scrap on the Paris-Dakar rally — the Würth customer Scout-Logic is always on hand to solve the problem.

Its clients include the German Association for Technical Assistance (GTZ), an arm of the German Foreign Office, the Red Cross, and the organizers of the Paris-Dakar rally, for whom Scout-Logic is an official logistics partner. For this purpose, the company’s Speyer headquarters maintains a permanent staff of 10, backed by a pool of up to 150 freelance workers who can be called on as required.

Logistics, particularly in disaster-relief projects, is however only one of the strengths of this company, founded by Hans-Dieter Schwing and originally located in Mosbach, Baden. The second string to Scout-Logic’s bow is a driving school at Würth customer service.

without Scout-Logic, the helicopter teams of the Paris-Dakar rally organizers would soon be stranded with empty fuel tanks.

It is possible to acquire a heavy-goods-vehicle license after 8 days’ instruction. The company also organizes driving courses under tough off-road conditions, which are very popular as an incentive award for both customers and company staff and can involve flights into the Sahara desert. These courses are, however, not run simply for fun. Professional drivers, too, can learn from ScoutLogic how to drive off-road while minimizing damage to vehicles and terrain.

Finally, the company’s range of services is completed by its presentation division, which accepts commissions from car and truck manufacturers. It was only to be expected that the latest idea of Hans-Dieter Schwing and his team would also be unconventional — to drive from Siberia to Alaska across the Bering Strait, which is frozen over for only three weeks of the year. An unusual way to get to America, but the only real way to go for true Scouts.

First Kenyan Truck Drivers Depart for Germany – Historic Step in Ruto–Germany Skilled Worker Deal

Mtwapa, 9 September 2025

A historic milestone has been reached: the first six Kenyan truck drivers are now officially on their way to Germany. This step marks the beginning of a new chapter in skilled labor migration between Kenya and Germany, made possible under the bilateral labor agreement.

During the past four months, the drivers completed an intensive training program designed together with their German employer. The preparation was demanding and comprehensive: every participant had to successfully answer more than 2,000 official exam questions required to convert a Kenyan driving license into a full German/EU truck driving license. In addition, all drivers passed strict medical and psychological assessments, ensuring they met the high safety and health standards required in Europe.

The training program combined theory and practice at the highest level. Each day, the drivers were required to be available from 7:50 AM until 4:30 PM for full-day classroom learning. Their future German employer covered all costs during this period and provided monthly payments to support them throughout the course.

To make sure the training was not only theoretical, the program integrated the most modern learning technologies. With the help of advanced driving simulation software and virtual reality training using Oculus 2 headsets, the drivers practiced European road traffic situations every day. Each driver was required to undergo a 30-minute simulator session daily, adding up to at least 60 sessions by the end of the course. This gave them not only the necessary knowledge, but also practical confidence for their future work in Europe.

n addition, every driver successfully completed a German language course at level A1. This training was provided by our own certified language teachers, fully accredited and working in close cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. Passing this course ensures that the drivers can manage daily communication in Germany and integrate faster into their new working and living environments.

An important legal requirement for the German work permit is the guarantee of fair wages. By law, every truck driver in Germany must receive a minimum of 3,000 EUR per month, which is currently about 450,000 Kenyan Shillings. This minimum salary is binding and protects the drivers by ensuring fair working and living conditions from the very beginning of their new careers abroad.

After the drivers fulfilled all requirements, the German migration authorities gave their approval. The German Consulate in Nairobi then issued the visas within a short time. With everything completed, the drivers’ flight has now been confirmed: they will depart for Germany on Monday evening at 9:00 PM.

This success demonstrates the determination and commitment of the Kenyan drivers as well as the strength of international cooperation. It is a clear example of how structured training, modern technology, certified language preparation, and fair migration agreements can create new opportunities — opening the road for Kenyan professionals to build their future in Europe.
